Mattress Recycling and Removal

Here at Mattress Online, we believe that mattress recycling should be accessible and straightforward for everyone. That's why we offer our optional, non-profit mattress recycling and removal service for just £35 when you buy a mattress from us.

The National Bed Federation Annual Recycling Reports estimate that only 14% of mattresses are recycled each year in the UK - that’s around 900,000 mattresses!

A landfill site full of rubbish and old furntiure.

We are committed to improving the sustainability of the mattress industry. Since launching our recycling initiative, we’re proud to have helped save over 150,000 mattresses from ending up in landfills.

But why is this so important? Mattresses that are sent to landfill have a serious impact on the planet. They can release toxic chemicals into the air, water and soil and landfill sites often destroy local wildlife habitats, causing serious damage to local ecosystems.

Join us in making a positive change for the planet. Choose our mattress recycling service and help us protect the environment, one mattress at a time.

Mattress recycling FAQs

Below we’ve answered some of our most common questions about our mattress recycling service:

How should I prepare my mattress for collection and recycling?

All you need to do is:

  • Take all of the bedding off of your old mattress
  • Place your old mattress near your door

Then we’ll pick it up when we deliver your new mattress, hassle-free!

If you select Premium Delivery, our delivery team will pick up your old mattress from your room of choice when we deliver your new one. But please ensure that all bedding has been removed from your mattress.

Can you take away and recycle my old bed?

Currently, we're unable to recycle your old bed. However, this is something that we’re working on and hope to offer soon as part of our sustainability commitment.

In the meantime, refer to your local council's Bulky Waste Collection Service for information on the service they offer.

Can you take away and recycle more than one mattress?

Unfortunately, we cannot recycle more than one mattress at this time due to space constraints in our delivery vans.

Can you collect my old mattress on a different day to my delivery?

At the moment we're unable to schedule separate collection days for your old mattress. We'll collect it when we deliver your new one.
