At Mattress Online, we stock mattresses, beds and accessories from leading brands and manufacturers across the UK and the world. We source a diverse range of products from over 30 different mattress, bed and bedding brands.

We only sell products that meet the highest industry standards, which is why we only work with suppliers and manufacturers who share the same values. Our dedicated team of mattress experts thoroughly test each product in our Mattress Online Comfort Lab to ensure that they meet these standards.

74% of our entire product range is approved by the National Bed Federation (NBF), the independent organisation that represents manufacturers and suppliers of the UK bed market ^[1].

NBF-approved members are required to manufacture at least 70% of their product range in the UK and to have been trading in the UK or the Republic of Ireland for at least 3 years. In addition, the NBF conducts regular assessments and inspections on these manufacturers, guaranteeing that they comply with the bed industry standards. These standards include quality, ethical practices and sustainable manufacturing ^[2].

Carbon passports

To reach net zero carbon emissions, many brands are striving to put their best foot forward when it comes to complying with greener legislation.

As part of the bed industry’s journey to become more sustainable, manufacturers and retailers are starting to see the emergence of Carbon Passports on mattresses, beds and a variety of other household items.

What are Carbon Passports?

A Carbon Passport is essentially documentation that details:

Every component of your product
The origin of your product
The carbon footprint of your product

Some of these Carbon Passports also include information on how and where you can recycle your product at the end of its life.

Brands such as Silentnight and Jay-Be are already adding Carbon Passports to all of their new products accessible by scanning a QR code with your mobile phone.

You will be able to find the Carbon Passport information in one of the following places:

On the tag attached to your mattress
On the label stitched onto the foot of your mattress
In your mattress care guide
In your mattress warranty or guarantee guide

The Climate Pledge and Carbon Neutrality

The Climate Pledge is the world’s largest pledge to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2040. Co-founded by Global Optimism and Amazon, the Climate Pledge group holds their partners to the highest sustainability standards by regularly measuring greenhouse gas emissions and improving renewable energy resources for these organisations ^[3].

We’re proud to say that our suppliers such as Silentnight ^[4] and Simba ^[5] have signed the Climate Pledge, and have pledged to reach their goals years ahead of the Paris Climate Agreement ^[6].

The Paris Climate Agreement is separate from The Climate Pledge but is an agreement signed at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) in 2015 by 196 parties.

The main aim of the Paris Climate Agreement is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to limit the effects of global warming and the impacts of climate change ^[7].

Several other brands such as Hypnos ^[8] and Harrison Spinks ^[9] have been celebrating years of being carbon neutral, meaning that they are balancing the carbon they produce with the carbon they are removing from the Earth’s atmosphere.

National Bed Federation Pledge For Our Planet

As the unifying body for the bed industry, the NBF launched its Pledge For Our Planet in 2023 ^[10]. This pledge aims to bring both bed and mattress manufacturers together to tackle the most important environmental impacts of our trade.

All signee’s of this Pledge are held accountable for the following five-point pledge:

Demonstrating a commitment to becoming a more sustainable business
Reducing their global warming impact
Reducing waste
Reducing their products’ impact on the environment
Taking responsibility for their actions

Mattress Online works closely with the NBF - the largest trade association in the bed and mattress sector - and 74% of all of the products we stock are from NBF-approved members.

What does being an NBF-approved member mean?

NBF-approved members are manufacturers who have proved to the NBF that they:

Manufacture at least 70% of their stock in the UK
Have been trading in the UK or Republic of Ireland for the last 3 years
Adhere to quality, ethical and sustainable standards

This means that when you buy from an NBF-approved member, you can be sure that your product will be high quality and come from a sustainable and ethical background ^[2].

As well as being winners of the NBF’s Online Bed Retailer Award, our store in Rotherham ‘The Bed Shop’ is an NBF Retail Champion.
